He tells her and she laughs and as the get closer the gap widens: despite the very small gap in the door. I wonder what will happen when that door opens and they are both exposed; should be as dark and compelling as this story has proven to be, without a doubt. Oh... and I forgot to mention I loved the trope of his 'old fashioned' sensibilities in light of separate bedrooms and secrete Victorian perversions; as women who too often idealize marriage, we forget to learn from what is historically true rather than what is what we want to see.
